Willis Polk executed French architect Ernest Sanson's plans for the 65,000 square foot, 98 room chateau built for Harriet Pullman Carolan, heiress to the Pullman railroad car fortune, between 1912 and 1916 on a 500-acre estate in the exclusive township of Hillsborough, CA. The plans for the garden and surrounding park were drawn up by landscape designer Duchene.
