UCHIDA. Kuwana, Shuya et al.
Intimate Hotel - The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon By Hulic.
Redesigned by Japanese architect Shigeru Uchida, a former office building in the revitalised Asakusa district of Tokyo became the Gate Hotel Kaminarimon, a haven for art, design and creativity. The transformation combines a design aesthetic of subdued elegance with accents of bold, urban vitality, offering splendid city views amidst a backdrop of high-rise towers and the Tokyo Sky Tree. Paintings by acclaimed artist Katsuhiko Hibino hang throughout. In this close reading of architecture and interiors, an intimate portrait of the project as a whole emerges, as Uchida and others identify his integrated approach, something which sets this building apart from its often extravagant context. Japanese/English.
